How to Choose the Best Propane Company

Whether you’re looking to heat your home, pool, fuel your grill, or power your business, propane can be a versatile and efficient source of energy. However, selecting the right propane company is as crucial as choosing the energy source itself.

A propane company does not just deliver propane to your home or business; they also ensure your system functions correctly, safely, and efficiently. This guide will provide a comprehensive approach to choosing the best propane company near your area.

Research Local Providers

Start by identifying all the propane suppliers in your area. A simple online search should provide a list of potential companies. Check out their websites and learn about the services they offer, their pricing structure, and their service area. Remember that a company’s physical location matters less than the areas they serve.

Check Out Customer Reviews and Ratings

One of the most important considerations is checking their online reviews. Customer reviews can provide valuable insight into a company’s reliability and service quality. Check online review platforms to see what existing customers have to say.

Watch Out for Intro Rates

When shopping prices, be careful of companies that are offering you introductory rates that are significantly lower than their current customer rates. You may be enticed by a low number now to only be paying much more than another company that quoted you their real current customer rate.

Examine Pricing Structure

Price is a crucial factor when choosing a propane company. Propane prices can fluctuate based on factors like market conditions, supply and demand, and your location. Companies might offer different pricing structures, including:

Fixed Pricing: The price per gallon remains the same throughout the contract period.
Variable Pricing: The price per gallon changes with the market rate.
Pre-Buy or Pre-Pay Pricing: You purchase a specific amount of propane at a fixed rate for future delivery.

Review Services They Offer

Different propane companies offer a range of services. Some merely deliver propane, while others provide comprehensive services like tank installation, system maintenance, and emergency services. Consider your needs and ensure the company you choose can meet them. For example, if you need a new tank, look for a company that offers installation services.

Evaluate Safety Record

The propane company you choose should prioritize safety. Check if they have safety information readily available for customers, conduct regular safety training for their staff, and adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations.

Assess Customer Service

Strong customer service is a significant factor to consider. A good propane company should be easy to contact, responsive to inquiries or issues, and willing to work with you to resolve any problems.

Compare Delivery Options

Propane companies offer different delivery options, such as:

Monitored Delivery: The company uses high tech monitors so they can see your current tank level and usage remotely. Some companies offer this service for free while others charge an annual fee.
Will-Call: You monitor your tank levels and call the company when you need a delivery.

Automatic Delivery: The company monitors your usage and schedules deliveries when needed.

Decide which option suits your lifestyle and make sure the company can accommodate it.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Should I buy or lease a propane tank?

Both options have pros and cons. Leasing can be more convenient as the company takes care of the maintenance and repairs, but it may require you to purchase propane exclusively from them. Buying gives you the freedom to choose your propane supplier, but it comes with higher upfront costs and maintenance responsibilities.

2. What should I do if I have an issue with my propane company?

If you have a problem, start by contacting the company directly. If they are unresponsive or unable to resolve the issue, it may be time to shop around for another company.

3. Can I switch propane companies?

Yes, you can switch propane companies, but the process might involve costs such as tank removal or installation fees. However if you are overpaying for propane you will save much more in the long run.

In conclusion, choosing the right propane company requires careful consideration of various factors, from pricing and delivery options to customer service and safety records. It’s crucial to conduct thorough research, consider your specific needs, and read customer reviews to make an informed decision. With the right choice, you can enjoy a safe, efficient, and reliable propane service for years to come. Remember, the cheapest option isn’t always the best; quality service and safety should never be compromised for price.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently had Propane Depot come out to install an LP tank and run lines for our new fire pit and gas grill. I can’t say enough good things about the entire experience—it was absolutely perfect from start to finish.
A massive shoutout to Dominic and Mike! They were fantastic to work with and went above and beyond to make sure we were completely set up and taken care of.
The efficiency of the whole team is next-level. From the initial phone call discussing what we needed, to the site survey, to the actual installation, everything was completely done in under a week. Their quick, professional work has completely transformed our backyard and elevated our outdoor lifestyle. If you need propane work done, these are your guys!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Keith is great at finding the best option for your needs, and Josh made the scheduling and permitting easy. Julian and Nick were extremely knowledgeable, fast, and performed my install on time, professionally, they continually made sure that I was happy with any slight changes or options they had to perform during the install in order to perform the cleanest setup possible for my new propane tank. Propane depot shows up when they say they will, is on-top of scheduling and paperwork and performed a great install and would definitely recommend them again.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. From start to finish this company does it right.
Setting the appointment was super easy for install.
Now as with any trenching and digging you have to expect something to go off the tracks. But not with Colby and Kevin. I explained where I wanted the tanks and where the line was to be run. They did it and without so much as a bump in the road. We fired up the heater and it worked 100% - that was of course after a pressure tests which was spot on.
Then Hector came to top off the propane tanks and in literally 3 Hours from start to completely finished there ya go.
No hesitation to recommend Propane Depot for all your propane needs.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently switched from another propane company to Propane Depot, and I’m very glad I did. The owner was friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain their pricing and the entire installation process. Their prices were about one-third lower than what I had been paying, which made the decision easy.
The installation was completed exactly when promised. The technician was professional, courteous, and did an excellent job removing my old tank and installing the new one. He also went the extra mile by checking my hot water heater and stove to make sure everything was working properly and that there were no gas leaks before he left.
Overall, I had an excellent experience from start to finish. I highly recommend Propane Depot to anyone looking for reliable service, fair pricing, and professional installation.
